How can I bypass "programs are preventing windows from shutting down" and force shutdown every time?
Whenever I try to shut down my laptop while a program is running (Firefox, for example) I get the above-mentioned warning. It's a cute safety move, but this is a laptop that often goes in a bag after I shut it down. I need Windows 7 to shut down
without fail every time I tell it to. Stomp every running program, I don't care, just shut down. Does anyone know how to make this happen? TIA

Identify these programs first. Then perhaps you can create a .bat file that will run upon shutdown to terminate related processes.

Why not change closing the lid to cause a hibernate rather than sleep? (Control Panel/Power Options) This will store the currant computer state to hard disk and power down the laptop. The next time you open the laptop and hit the power button,
it will boot faster and open in the same state you left it.

Hi,
First,
please let me know which applications are preventing Windows from shutting down.
Please boot the computer in safe mode and see if you are facing the same problem. Safe Mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup
programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.
To avoid data lose and application corruption, it is better to save the files you are editing and close the running applications before shutting
down.
If everything works fine in safe mode then some third party services are causing the problems, so to know which service is causing the problem we need
to perform Clean Boot.
